Changjiang Daily News (By Han Wei) On 8th, participants of the 3rd Wuhan Design Biennale upvote Wuhan for applying for the “World Design Capital”, expressing strong confidence.
Wang Shuping, Vice President of China Exploration and Design Association, introduced that, for urban development, design shall go ahead of the rest, and the application for the “World Design Capital” will be great benefit for promoting urban construction. At present, Beijing which has become a ‘Design Capital’ holds a design week annually, while Shenzhen more focuses on the urban design. “Wuhan’s strengths are embodied in engineering design and Jingchu culture design, to apply for the ‘World Design Capital’, these characteristics shall be played out.”
Wang Shuping said that Wuhan exploration and design enterprises ranked first in the Midwest in industry scale and revenue for many years. Under the new situation of the national slowdown in investment this year, the original model of development will encounter bottlenecks in design industry, so design enterprises must seek for innovation and breakthrough, and adapt to the demands of “Internet+” and “Industry 4.0” era. “Wuhan Design Biennale provides such a communication platform, and application for the ‘World Design Capital’ will force enterprises to innovate.”
Niu Xinqiang, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Changjiang Institute of Survey, Planning, Design and Research, analyzes the design advantages of Wuhan and makes recommendations. In his view, consultation is the soul of national strategies, and many foreign design enterprises are also excellent consultation companies, so Wuhan should foster a number of internationally influential engineering consultation groups. “We should advance with the times, provide an important technical support for national strategy development, and become a national new think tank in areas such as ‘the Belt and Road’, the Yangtze River economic belt and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development.”
